Stampin’ Celebration #21

It’s another overcast day here in Washington state…and the perfect weather to be curled up reading a good book or make some cards!

Yesterday, I made some crumpled paper flowers based on a tutorial I found on Cosmo Cricket’s blog. They are pretty easy to make…drying them in the microwave is pretty cool, too! I used the first flower I made on my entry for this week’s Stampin’ Celebration challenge! Here are the inspiration photos for this week:

Normally, I’m not a shabby-chic style cardmaker, but I thought that style would be great (combined with the crumpled paper flower), for my card!
I used SU natural white cardstock for the base, and papers by The Girls’ Paperie for the background. The bird cage and sentiment are also by Stampin’ Up! I used a piece of Maya Road lace for the trim and Chocolate Chip ink and dimensional glaze and glitter pens to color in the details on the birdcage.
Thanks for stopping by to look at my card!

Unscripted Sketches #74

I paired this week’s Unscripted Sketch (#74) with some adorable papers from My Little Shoebox’s Harmony collection!
Here’s this week’s sketch:
…and here’s my card!
I used two sizes of i-Top punches to make the sun accent for the card. Instead of adding three brads, I cut three lanterns from a scrap of Harmony collection paper and strung them together with linen thread.
The letter stickers are by Cosmo Cricket, and a Cuttlebug embossing folder was used on the card base.
Thanks so much for stopping by to look at my card! Visit us at Unscripted Sketches to see the design team’s creations and to check out this week’s challenge entries! I can’t wait to see what you make using this week’s sketch!
AND…we’ve got some fantastic ideas in store for you next week as we celebrate World Card Making Day! I hope you’ll join us!

PaperCrafts Go-To Sketch Challenge 7!

I just entered a card in PaperCrafts Magazine’s Go-To Sketch Challenge #7. To see the sketch, and to get all the details on the contest, which runs until midnight (MDT) on Monday, October 4, click HERE.

Here’s the card that I made…
I flipped the sketch for my card, and attached the last part of the sentiment to the bottom right of the design. I think it looks more balanced that way!
I stamped the sentiment with Lawn Fawn’s Harold’s ABC’s alphabet. The rest of the card is made from kraft cardstock, Bo Bunny Double Dot and various scraps of SU and Bazzill cardstock. I accented the star and the background with Stickles.
All of the contest entries can be found in this flickr gallery!
Thanks for stopping by!

colourQ #51

I spent lots of time last night arranging the pieces on my card for this week’s colourQ challenge (#51). I had a lot of fun with these colors; it was just hard to figure out how I’d make them all work on my card!

Here’s my finished product!
I started with a white cardstock base and embossed some Poppy Parade cardstock for the main background. Then I stamped a leaf pattern in Old Olive on a strip of Old Olive cardstock. After the initial impression, I stamped again on a different part of the paper to create the shadow effect.
Next, two eyelets were added to the strip of Old Olive to tie some twine through.
I punched three circles of Peach Parfait with the smallest i-Top punch to create the sunbursts, and added a punched circle of So Saffron to the center. I stamped teacups on each of the circles and colored in some tea with a copper gel pen.
To complete the card, I stamped the sentiment with Old Olive ink and matted it on scraps of matching cardstock and patterned paper.
The sentiment and teacup stamps are by Elzybells Art Stamps. The embossing folder is by Sizzix.
Thanks so much for stopping by to look at my card!

Two Challenges, One Card!

I had fun creating the card I’m entering in this week’s Curtain Call Challenge at Stacey’s Stampin’ Stage! The colors in this week’s challenge aren’t a combo I’ve ever used or would have thought to use and I’m happy with the result!

The sketch I used for this card comes from this week’s Get Sketchy challenge, so I’ve worked two challenges into one card, which is something I don’t do very often!

Here are the inspiration photo and colors:

and this week’s Get Sketchy sketch:
Those two elements combined to make this card!
I stamped a flower from Stampin’ Up’s “One of a Kind” set on Peach Parfait cardstock with Rich Razzleberry ink for the background. Then I embossed some Wild Wasabi cardstock and border punched a strip of Poppy Parade cardstock.
I also stamped the flower a few times on Rich Razzleberry cardstock, layered them and added a pearl brad to the center. The sentiment is from SU’s “A Word for You” set. To finish the card, I added sparkly details to the flower and six brass brads. The card base is made with Very Vanilla cardstock, as is the area where the sentiment is stamped.

CPS 185

I had some pet-themed paper scraps left over from a layout that I recently finished about our dog, Midnight, and I thought they would work well with this week’s CPS sketch (#185):

Here’s my card:
I used scraps of Bo Bunny’s Double Dot and “Pet Shop collections, Basic Grey’s “Max & Whiskers,” and an American Crafts dimensional sticker for the sentiment on my card. I added some glittery dimensional Basic Grey Pops, also from the Max & Whiskers collection and hand-drew some stitching to complete the card.

colourQ #50!

The inspiration for this week’s colourQ challenge (#50) features some fun spicy colors!
The color that I substituted for the Pear Pizzazz came out more minty in my photo than it is on the actual card, but here’s what I created!
Supplies: Stamps (Close to My Heart – teapot/cup, Lawn Fawn – alphabet, Technique Tuesday – houndstooth), Ink (Stampin’ Up!), Border Punch (Martha Stewart Crafts), Embossing Folder (Sizzix), Cardstock (Stampin’ Up!, Bazzill), Other (heart punch, glitter pen)

Stampin’ Celebration #20!

I always enjoy participating in Stampin’ Celebration’s weekly photo inspiration challenges! I haven’t been able to make something for the challenges over the past few weeks — we were in California visiting my in-laws and some of our friends!

I’m so glad to be able to participate for the 20th challenge…and happy there’s fabulous girly inspiration this week!

I was inspired by the light pink and black, the girly elements, the quilting and the flowers…here’s my card!
I scored the pink cardstock to create a “quilted” background. I used stamps from Lawn Fawn (dressform), Catslife Press (purse), Fiskars (shoes & sentiment). Everything was stamped in Basic Black SU ink.
I made the flower by crinkling several scalloped punched circles, cutting a spiral into each circle and rolling them together. A black brad was used for the flower’s center. I cut out leaves from some paper scraps and colored the images in with glaze and glitter pens and colored pencils.

Unscripted Sketches #73

This week at Unscripted Sketches, we’re featuring a bonus piggyback challenge!

What does that mean? Well, first, let’s take a look at this week’s Unscripted Sketch:

The piggyback challenge works like this: in addition to the challenge of making a card or layout with the weekly sketch, you can also “kick it up a notch” and make your card or layout in a monochromatic style. This means you use one color, but different shades of that color. My card is an example:

Supplies: Cardstock & Ink (Stampin’ Up!), Paper (Reminisce), Stamps (memory box & elzybells art stamps), Flowers (Prima), Brads (Imaginisce), Embossing Folder (Sizzix)

I flipped the sketch and used varying shades of purple to make my monochromatic card!

Purple is my favorite color, but I didn’t realize until I made this card that I don’t have a lot of purple-ish paper in my stash to choose from!

The design team has some beautiful examples to show you! I can’t wait to see what you’ll create with this week’s Unscripted Sketch!

Thanks for visiting!

Unscripted Sketches #72

I’m excited to make my first post as a member of the Unscripted Sketches design team!

I’ve been participating in Unscripted’s weekly sketch challenges for a while, and couldn’t resist applying when the call went out for new design team members! I’m honored to be a part of this magnificent group of ladies!

If you are just finding out about Unscripted Sketches, every Saturday morning we post a sketch for the week. Flip it, rotate it… create a card or a scrapbook page with our sketch. There’s no right or wrong way, as long as you are using the Unscripted Sketch as the basis of your creation!

Here’s the sketch for this week:

and here’s my card!
We just got back from a trip to visit family and friends in California, and it was a nice change to come home to some cooler temperatures! For me, a nice cup of cocoa on a cool evening is divine…so it was the inspiration for my card!
The paper I used is from My Minds Eye and Pink Paislee. I stamped a heart pattern on a scrap of cardstock for the part in the lower left corner. The cocoa stamp is by Imaginisce, and the sentiment is from Elzybells Art Stamps. I colored the cup of cocoa with colored pencils.
Thanks for visiting, and I can’t wait to see what you create with this week’s Unscripted Sketch!
