Caardvarks "Sensational Stickers" Challenge

The latest Caardvarks challenge is to create a card based upon one of the Crew Caards featured in the October 5 blog entry (to see them, click HERE). The winner will receive a collection of SRM stickers! You can find the rules and all of the contest details by visiting the Caardvarks blog!

I based my entry on Michelle’s card:

For my card, I shortened the length to a standard A2 size, but kept the rest pretty similar in placement to hers!
The paper I used is from Sassafras’ Nerdy Bird collection. I used an SRM sticker for the sentiment (I LOVE these). The flower was made by stacking two felt flowers and securing them with a custom brad. I used four coordinating glitter brads and some sheer red ribbon to complete the card.
Thanks for looking!

Unscripted Sketches #75

Welcome back for this week’s Unscripted Sketch! Glad you could stop by! And…Happy World Card Making Day!

Some background about this holiday:

World Card Making Day began in 2006 as National Card Making Day. Founded by Paper Crafts magazine to bring card makers together at the beginning of the busiest card-making season of the year, it was first held on October 7, 2006. The initial celebration involved the Paper Crafts magazine audience only; however, due to the positive response it received and the worldwide popularity of card making, the holiday became known as World Card Making Day from then on.

Celebrating its fifth year in 2010, World Card Making Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October. It’s a day for the card-making community — hobbyists, retailers, and manufacturers — to unite and celebrate the connection and creativity that is the heart of card making.

What better way to celebrate World Card Making Day than with another fun sketch challenge at Unscripted Sketches? So…let’s check out this week’s sketch!

I used the sketch to make a birthday card (because October 3 is my birthday!) with some cute papers from Sassafrass’s Indie Girl collection!
I colored the cake image, which is from Savvy Stamps, with colored pencils and some gel pens, and added stitching detail around the image with a micro-tip felt pen. I die-cut the scalloped circle and accented it with a gel pen.
The ribbon and border strip design are also from Sassafras. The sentiment stamp is by Stampin’ Up! SU Night of Navy and Chocolate Chip were used to stamp the image and sentiment.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’ll have fun playing along with us this week at Unscripted Sketches and I wish you a creative and fun World Card Making Day!

SCIC #22

I’m making a slight disclaimer on my card for this week’s Stampin Celebration challenge…I love the theme for the challenge, but circumstances beyond my control hampered my creative mojo a little bit on this one…

Before I made my card, I was out on the deck taking pictures of myself for a special blog post. I was holding the camera up above my head, and between clicks I felt a hard pin prick under my arm…I got stung by a wasp! Luckily, it doesn’t seem like I’m allergic, but it hurt like crazy! Today, it’s very itchy…it’s just in a bad spot.
So, when it came time to make my card, I used the bee-like colors, a flower stamp, and even found a cute little bee to put on the card…it seems that this one was a challenge of another kind for me! OUCH!
The flower and sentiment stamps are by Stampin’ Up! The diabolically cute bee was cut from some Imaginisce patterned paper. I embossed some Bo Bunny Double Dot for the card background and a scrap of paper by Three Bugs in a Rug for the dotted strip that goes across the embossed section.
The buttons are tied with baker’s twine.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my card!

CPS #186

Fall is my favorite season…I love the changing of the leaves, the cool weather and the sights and tastes of the season (pumpkin spice latte, anybody?), so I was in a fall state of mind when I came up with the theme of my card for Card Positioning Systems challenge #186!

Here’s the sketch:

and here’s my card!
I didn’t follow the sketch literally, but I did take inspiration from the positioning of the three octagons.
I stamped the three apples with an Imaginisce clear stamp, then used the apples as templates to draw the caramel. I used scrap strips of cardstock for the sticks and used a corner rounder on the top of each one. The background is a scrap of Pink Paislee paper. The sentiment stamp is by Memory Box.
Thanks for looking at my card!
There are lots of great design team examples and other entries at the CPS blog!

Operation Write Home & SRM Stickers Challenge

SRM Stickers has teamed up with Operation Write Home to celebrate OWH’s birthday this month, and SRM is sponsoring a card sketch challenge as part of the celebration!

About Operation Write Home:

Operation Write Home began in 2007 with just a few cards made by friends on a message board; what began as an outlet for a hobby has become a much larger mission to help heroes keep in touch with home – and the effort has been joined by thousands of cardmakers!

OWH receives handmade cards donated by crafters across America (and beyond!). Cardmakers range in age, location, and level of skill; cards are provided by individuals and groups, schools and scouts, companies and churches. All have one primary thing in common: a desire to serve those who defend our nation!

Cards are mailed to one of our volunteer shippers in quanities both small and large. The shippers process, sort, repair, and document each donation, and then pack and ship boxes of over 300 cards each to our contacts. Our heroes request cards (families may also request on their behalf; we serve all branches in all deployed locations.

Here’s the contest sketch:

For my card, I embossed some Stampin’ Up cardstock for the background, added some patterned paper and Double Dot from Bo Bunny, and paper pieced the stamped image from Imaginisce.

The sentiment is from SRM Stickers, of course!
This contest runs on the SRM blog until September 30th at midnight (Pacific Time). All cards made for the contest must follow OWH’s guidelines, found here.

Get Sketchy #57

For this week’s Get Sketchy challenge, I was finally able to use a cute bubblegum machine stamp by aMuse that I bought a while back…it seemed to fit right in with this week’s challenge sketch:

I flipped the sketch and used lots of Bo Bunny’s Sun Kissed collection on this card…the polka dots and bright colors seemed to fit!
The sentiment stamp is by Memory Box. I colored the image with glaze dimensional pens (even the gumballs). I left a few gumballs white to match the colors in the paper, and used a clear glaze pen to accent a few dots in the top layer of patterned paper (which probably doesn’t show up well in the photo).
Thanks for stopping by to look at my card! You can see more entries for this week’s challenge, as well as the design team’s creations at Get Sketchy!

Stampin’ Celebration #21

It’s another overcast day here in Washington state…and the perfect weather to be curled up reading a good book or make some cards!

Yesterday, I made some crumpled paper flowers based on a tutorial I found on Cosmo Cricket’s blog. They are pretty easy to make…drying them in the microwave is pretty cool, too! I used the first flower I made on my entry for this week’s Stampin’ Celebration challenge! Here are the inspiration photos for this week:

Normally, I’m not a shabby-chic style cardmaker, but I thought that style would be great (combined with the crumpled paper flower), for my card!
I used SU natural white cardstock for the base, and papers by The Girls’ Paperie for the background. The bird cage and sentiment are also by Stampin’ Up! I used a piece of Maya Road lace for the trim and Chocolate Chip ink and dimensional glaze and glitter pens to color in the details on the birdcage.
Thanks for stopping by to look at my card!

Unscripted Sketches #74

I paired this week’s Unscripted Sketch (#74) with some adorable papers from My Little Shoebox’s Harmony collection!
Here’s this week’s sketch:
…and here’s my card!
I used two sizes of i-Top punches to make the sun accent for the card. Instead of adding three brads, I cut three lanterns from a scrap of Harmony collection paper and strung them together with linen thread.
The letter stickers are by Cosmo Cricket, and a Cuttlebug embossing folder was used on the card base.
Thanks so much for stopping by to look at my card! Visit us at Unscripted Sketches to see the design team’s creations and to check out this week’s challenge entries! I can’t wait to see what you make using this week’s sketch!
AND…we’ve got some fantastic ideas in store for you next week as we celebrate World Card Making Day! I hope you’ll join us!

PaperCrafts Go-To Sketch Challenge 7!

I just entered a card in PaperCrafts Magazine’s Go-To Sketch Challenge #7. To see the sketch, and to get all the details on the contest, which runs until midnight (MDT) on Monday, October 4, click HERE.

Here’s the card that I made…
I flipped the sketch for my card, and attached the last part of the sentiment to the bottom right of the design. I think it looks more balanced that way!
I stamped the sentiment with Lawn Fawn’s Harold’s ABC’s alphabet. The rest of the card is made from kraft cardstock, Bo Bunny Double Dot and various scraps of SU and Bazzill cardstock. I accented the star and the background with Stickles.
All of the contest entries can be found in this flickr gallery!
Thanks for stopping by!

colourQ #51

I spent lots of time last night arranging the pieces on my card for this week’s colourQ challenge (#51). I had a lot of fun with these colors; it was just hard to figure out how I’d make them all work on my card!

Here’s my finished product!
I started with a white cardstock base and embossed some Poppy Parade cardstock for the main background. Then I stamped a leaf pattern in Old Olive on a strip of Old Olive cardstock. After the initial impression, I stamped again on a different part of the paper to create the shadow effect.
Next, two eyelets were added to the strip of Old Olive to tie some twine through.
I punched three circles of Peach Parfait with the smallest i-Top punch to create the sunbursts, and added a punched circle of So Saffron to the center. I stamped teacups on each of the circles and colored in some tea with a copper gel pen.
To complete the card, I stamped the sentiment with Old Olive ink and matted it on scraps of matching cardstock and patterned paper.
The sentiment and teacup stamps are by Elzybells Art Stamps. The embossing folder is by Sizzix.
Thanks so much for stopping by to look at my card!
